The app

Live Transcription turns the sound your Mac plays, and your microphone when you turn it on, into text on your Mac, with Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Audio is never recorded, and nothing you say or hear is sent anywhere. Transcripts are saved only in the folder you choose.

Permissions

System Audio Recording and Microphone are used only to transcribe, while transcription is on. You can turn them off at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Internet

The app goes online only to check for updates (the Mac App Store version asks the App Store; the downloaded version asks downloads.almostinc.com), and macOS downloads a language’s speech model from Apple the first time it is used. These requests carry no audio and no transcripts. Like any web request, they show your IP address to the server.
